In reply to Andre Da Costa's post on February 19, I just followed your instructions aswell, even though they were already covered in one of the previously posted instructions. Unfortunately, it did not help. Thank you for your input regardless! Make sure during the booted install to follow the illustrated steps to delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, then click Next to let it auto-create the needed partitions, format them and begin install - this makes it foolproof.
Then at the drive selection screen highlight the newly Unallocated Space and click Next to let it create needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof. You will get and keep the best possible install to the exact extent you stick with the steps, tools and methods in the linked tutorial.
It's a better install than any amount of money could buy. Which version of Windows 10 is currently installed? Which version and edition Windows did you originally upgrade from or was installed prior to your current version: Windows 10 - , , , build Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Windows 8. So I did all the creation tool stuff, plugged the USB stick into the mobo - First time within the installation interface, I deleted all partitions as mentioned and cleaned the disk using some commands List Disk Select Disk Clean etc.
Did it confirm the Disk was cleaned? This should mean the media is good. Are you folllowing the illustrated steps in the Clean Install tutorial? You need to boot the media as a UEFI device. It will not autostart on its own. Then choose the UEFI flash stick.
Let it load just as you did before, then at second screen choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at the drive selection screen click on the Unallocated Space and then click Next. What happens?
I did all of that! But it still says insert proper boot device. I should not have done the additional steps of deleting partitions. On my second computer, the USB drive now shows very unusual behaviour and I cannot reformat it as windows says it is unable to reformat. Well I get a new stick and then eventually a new install of windows will see the light.
OK, then we need to go through the checklist to find out what's causing the problem. There is no need to panic. I've directly helped in at least ten thousand of these install cases, and several million have completed my install tutorials, and every one was resolved because I do not quit until it's installed with the best install of Windows possible.
I specifically asked if you got confirmation from Diskpart CLean as this helps confirm your media which is always a prime suspect. I did not ask if you'd "tried everything. When you choose that exactly what does it do next? If no UEFI and you choose the media to boot, what exactly happens. If hard drive fails replace it and start over.
If not report back on each step results in detail. Thank you for that information. I tried it and no troubleshooting window, tool or diagnostic program comes up in this instance either. The Windows 7 Home Premium 64 installation was running flawlessly prior to what seemed to be a flawless Windows 10 upgrade. Windows 10 overall is performing well, but not as perfectly as it probably can be. At any rate, I still search for an answer, but I have a new question.
Why won't this idiot "troubleshooter" come up? This seems to be the way when a Windows issue arises. This causes that, that leads this, this attributes to the other and the other prevents more from working or working properly. Which is the root cause? Who knows? That's very odd, maybe a system file is missing or corrupt somewhere along the way? I'm just guessing.
My chipset drivers were up to date, it turns out. Touch wood , my PC now shuts down properly I previously had the power settings on High Power and set to never turn off or put displays to sleep. I don't see why that would cause my PC to reboot instead of shut down, but changing it to balanced seems to have solved the problem. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
